UK Championship snooker: Judd Trump edges past John Higgins in final-frame decider at

World number one Judd Trump beat three-time champion John Higgins 6-5 in the decider to advance to the quarter-finals of the British Championships at York Barbican.

After a heated start with many tactical exchanges, the score was tied at 2-2 at halftime, and the game became smoother after that.

Trump hit a brilliant break of 111 and also scored two half-centuries to lead 5-4, but Higgins scored 58 and 106 under pressure to force the 11th game with a composed 66.

However, a loose shot from the Scot’s safety was severely punished by Trump, who sealed victory with a superb century.

“It’s nice to do it when it really matters, like in the last frame, it was a great break,” Trump told BBC Sport.

“The real pressure was probably when I played my best. The game was so slow and I wanted to pick up the pace and start getting more balls. It’s a big game and sometimes you work too hard at the start.”
