Police face misconduct notices over girl’s M5 death
The watchdog has announced that two police officers have been issued misconduct notices after a 17-year-old girl died after escaping from a police car.
Tamzin Hall, 17, from Wellington, Somerset, was seriously injured when she was hit by a car on the M5 motorway between Taunton and Bridgewater shortly after 23:00 GMT on 11 November .
The Independent Office for Police Conduct said Ms Hall was handcuffed in the back of the police car when it was pulled over for “security reasons”.
Regional director David Ford said: “Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working hard to establish the circumstances leading up to Tamzin’s arrest and the incident on the M5 shortly afterwards.”
Ms Hall fled a marked police car parked on the northbound carriageway of the motorway and died after being struck by a car in the southbound carriageway.
The IOPC said it had issued misconduct notices to two officers alleging possible breaches of their duties and responsibilities.
