NFL Thanksgiving: Detroit Lions beat Chicago Bears for record-equalling 10th straight win

The Detroit Lions withstood a counterattack by the Chicago Bears to win 23-20, winning their tenth straight game and ending their wait for a Thanksgiving victory.

Detroit has hosted a game on Thanksgiving every year since 1934, but this was their first win on the American holiday since 2016.

The Lions tied a franchise record by winning 11 of 12 games this season, leading 16-0 at halftime and 23-7 after the third quarter.

Chicago held on to win by three with 5:36 left, but poor clock management on the visitors’ final possession allowed Detroit to hang on.

Jared Goff connected with Sam LaPorta for two touchdowns and 221 yards, helping the Lions hold a 279-27 deficit in a lopsided first half. 53 over the Bears.

Although Chicago fought back to put up a tight final, the Bears couldn’t score the points they needed down the stretch to take advantage of the final timeout, extending their losing streak to six games.

The Lions’ 10-game winning streak ties a 90-year-old record dating back to 1934, the franchise’s first season in Detroit.

The Thanksgiving schedule continues with the New York Giants taking on the Dallas Cowboys (Thursday, 21:30 GMT).

The Miami Dolphins travel to the Green Bay Packers (Friday 01:20 GMT), while the Las Vegas Raiders travel to the Kansas City Chiefs (Friday 20:20 GMT) 00).
