Amadou Hott’s Candidacy Officially Announced – Africa.com
DAKAR, Senegal, 28 November 2024 – /African Media Agency (AMA)/ – The Government of Senegal, through the Ministry of African Integration and Ministry of African Integration, is proud to announce the official launch of the candidacy of Mr. Amadou Hote for President of the African Union Africa Development Bank (the “Bank”) Group.
This official launch ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at 4:00 pm at the Hotel Terubi, marks an important milestone in Senegal’s commitment to pan-African development and will be effectively led by Her Excellency, Lady Senegal. Yassin Fall, Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs.
After 60 years of remarkable progress, the African Development Bank, under the visionary leadership of successive presidents, has become Africa’s leading development financial institution. The current Chairman, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has also achieved unprecedented results in terms of development impact and capital growth.
Mr. Amadou Hote contributed significantly to this success under the guidance of Dr. Adesina, first as the inaugural Vice President of the Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth Complex (2016-2019 ) and then served as Presidential Envoy for the Green Development Alliance. Green Infrastructure in Africa (2022-2024).
Mr. Huot brings more than 25 years of rich and diverse experience combining investment banking, development banking, sovereign wealth fund management and public policy to embody a bold and inclusive vision for addressing the continent’s current and future challenges. The former Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation of Senegal (2019-2022), he is a renowned economist and financial expert with a deep understanding of the issues facing stakeholders, including government and the private sector.
Through this nomination, Senegal seeks to nominate a capable, visionary and pragmatic leader who can help accelerate the implementation of transformative projects and programs in Africa, thereby contributing to the agency’s mission. The initiative also aims to strengthen African integration, promote sustainable and inclusive growth, and create jobs while creating wider economic opportunities, with a special focus on youth and women.
The purpose of this official release is to:
1. Inform the public of Mr. Amadou Hote’s candidacy and the support of the Government of Senegal.
2. Strengthen the candidate’s assets and vision for the bank.
3. Mobilize domestic and international support for this major bid
Through this candidacy, Senegal commits to actively contribute to Africa’s economic and social transformation while strengthening the African Development Bank’s capacity to drive sustainable prosperity in Africa.
