Joe Marler: Ex-England prop announces retirement from rugby

That year, Mahler made his international debut against the Springboks on England’s tour of South Africa.

In 2015, he failed to qualify in the home World Cup group stage with England.

But the following year they won all five games to claim the Six Nations Grand Slam, with Marler featuring in every game.

England defended the title in 2017, only to lose to Ireland on the final day, missing out on a chance to win a second consecutive Grand Slam and claim it again in 2020.

Although Mahler announced his retirement from the national team in 2018, he returned to the England team and participated in the 2019 World Cup in Japan, where they reached the final but were defeated 32-12 South Africa in Yokohama.

His last World Cup appearance came as a substitute in England’s 16-15 defeat to the Springboks in the Paris semi-finals last year. Announcement of retirement from the national team November.
