Queen’s Club: Laura Robson appointed tournament director of new women’s event

Former British number one Laura Robson has been appointed tournament director of the new women’s event at Queen’s Club in London.

The WTA 500 will start on June 9, 2025 and will be the first tour-level women’s event to be held in London in more than 50 years.

Robson has served as the Nottingham Open tournament director for the past two years and will officially retire in 2022.

The 30-year-old, who won a silver medal in mixed doubles at London 2012, said she was “thrilled to be taking on this role”.

She added: “I’m sure the women’s competition will be just as exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”

Multiple Grand Slam champion doubles player Jamie Murray will once again oversee the men’s tournament, which starts in a week’s time.

After Robson took over, Amy Hitchinson was selected as Nottingham’s successor, which means that more than 70% of the LTA’s major grass-court events will be held by female tournament directors.
