Northern Ireland v Norway: Underdogs believe ‘anything is possible’ – Simone Magill
Northern Ireland are hoping to reach back-to-back European Cup finals but it will be a new experience for most of the players in the Oxtoby squad.
Only 11 of the 23 players who took part in NI’s first major tournament almost two and a half years ago have been earmarked for this match against Norway.
This is the fourth time Northern Ireland has faced Norway in recent years.
Norway twice won 6-0 in the Euro 2022 qualifiers and 4-1 in the final in England.
The turnover of players in a short period of time has been staggering and Magill said it should be those who have been on the biggest stage advising the younger members of the squad.
“All the senior players, we have a lot of leaders and we’ve talked about it a lot,” the Birmingham City striker added.
“We should step up and coach young players who have never experienced anything like this before.
“Even talking about big tournaments, this is new territory for a lot of our players.
“We have to focus on the game rather than the occasion and we have to take it one game at a time.”
