Nick Cushing leaves New York City amid Arsenal interest

New York City manager Nick Cushing has been sacked by the club amid interest from Women’s Super League club Arsenal.

Cushing led his former club Manchester City to the WSL title in 2016 during his seven-year run at the club. one of the candidates Successor to Jonas Eidevall in north London.

Cushing said earlier this month There have been no links with the Gunners and he will remain in charge of the MLS club until 2025, but City have decided it’s time to move on.

City said: “While we are very grateful for everything he has done for the club, at this time, we feel it is best for the team to move in a new direction and develop plans for the 2025 season and beyond.”

“We sincerely thank Nick for his contribution and wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors.”

Arsenal have been without a head coach since Edouard resigned after a defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on October 15.

Led by interim head coach Renee Slagers, they have won six of seven games and booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League.

Cushing, a 40-year-old Englishman, joined New York City as an assistant coach in 2020 and became head coach in 2022.

He left the team after he led them to a sixth-place finish in the league and a spot in the MLS play-off semi-finals.
