Warning issued for Storm Bert winds

A yellow wind warning will come into effect at 11:00 GMT on Sunday

A yellow warning for strong winds from Storm Bert is in force across Northern Ireland.

On Saturday, many families in counties Down and Tyrone Heavy rain and high winds from the storm caused flooding.

The wind warning will last until 18:00 and may cause travel disruptions and power outages.

Northern Ireland Electric (NIE) said 6,500 homes and businesses across Northern Ireland were without power on Saturday at the height of Storm Burt.

Rail services are also experiencing delays, with flooding causing some services to be canceled between Belfast and Dublin.

The Met Office said wind speeds were expected to be between 45 and 55 mph on Sunday, with gusts of up to 65 mph possible.

Northern Ireland’s strongest winds were recorded on Saturday at Ballypatrick, County Antrim, with gusts of 67mph.

Met Éireann has also issued a yellow wind warning for some counties in the Republic of Ireland, which will come into effect at 08:00 local time.

The warning will last until 19:00 on Sunday in counties Clare, Kerry and Galway.

Derrywood, County Fermanagh, received 65.2mm between 18:00 GMT on Friday and 06:00 GMT on Sunday.

This is 53% of Northern Ireland’s normal November rainfall.

The average is 122.5 mm.

Altnahinch Filter in County Antrim and Molo in County Down both received 58mm, 47% of normal rainfall.
