Ruben Amorim: The story of Man Utd’s new manager branded the ‘second Special One’

Amorim started out as a trainee coach at Casa Pia before taking full charge and guiding them through promotions with minimal budget.

“As a coach, the most important thing for Ruben is to develop close relationships with his players,” Simao added. Simao played for his friend at Casa Pia in 2018 after recovering from a road accident that left him in a coma.

“The accident happened around the time he was appointed coach of Casa Pia.

“After a while, I sent him a message and said, ‘Listen, what do you think about me joining your team?’ He said, ‘Please, we can’t mix up our relationship. Four months ago you were In a coma, you are 33 years old and you are an expensive player for Casa Pia. ”

“Then, a week later, he texted me and said, ‘Listen, I want you to join my team. Let’s make this happen.'”

However, things were not always smooth sailing, and Simao remembers Amorim’s reaction when things didn’t go as planned.

“I’ve seen him get angry many times because he wants to play well and win.”

One of these came after the defeat of Amora, whose coach at the time was a Russian who was Amorim’s childhood friend.

“It’s nice to see good friends again,” Russia said. “We were chatting and reminiscing about our childhood. My team won 1-0!

“At Casa Pia he decided to play a different formation, switching to a 3-4-3. Their movement allowed them to take first place.”

The Russian paid tribute to Mourinho, adding: “He was the second ‘special one’.”

Victor Seabra Franco, president of Casa Pia, said the funding Amorim received was “minuscule” due to tight budgets and limited resources.

“I won’t mention the numbers because they are too small to be worth mentioning,” he added.

“For games at 3pm in Alentejo or Algarve, we start early in the morning. We train in the evening. Ruben changed everything and we start training in the morning.

“For example, sometimes there was no water, but even with all the difficulties there was still a group of people, and Ruben – those players loved Ruben.

“They did everything they could to make it possible for Casa Pia and Ruben to win.”

Players were in tears when Amorim announced he was leaving Casa Pia after just one season.

“This is the saddest memory of Ruben’s presence – the day he left Casapia,” Sibra Franco said.
