NFL issues security warning to players after Mahomes and Kelce burglaries
The NFL has issued a security warning to players, alerting them to a criminal network targeting their homes.
We urge players to stay safe and be mindful of what they post on social media.
This comes after the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were burglarized last month, while a property owned by Dallas Cowboys player Linval Joseph was also burglarized last week.
An NFL safety memo on the issue was sent to team safety directors and the players union.
Reporting on the memo, the NFL website said it understood the criminal organization “used public records to find players’ addresses and conduct widespread surveillance.”
“Then, by tracking team schedules and the social media accounts of players and their families, they wait until their homes are empty – often during games.”
Players are also asked to make it appear as if someone is home when out, such as by leaving lights or TVs on.
“I can’t go into too many details because the investigation is still ongoing,” Mahomes said when asked about the break-in.
“But obviously, that’s something you wouldn’t want to happen to anybody but obviously yourself.”
