Las Vegas Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton leads George Russell in first practice

Lewis Hamilton led George Russell to a one-two with Mercedes in first practice for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Hamilton held a .396 advantage over Russell, who set the fastest trading time at the end of the session and dominated throughout the hour.

McLaren’s Lando Norris is technically still in contention for the title in third, while championship leader Max Verstappen’s Red Bull Racing team is fifth behind For Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

With three races remaining, Verstappen leads Norris by 62 points and will clinch a fourth title as long as he doesn’t score more than two points ahead of Norris.

The drivers battled the dirt early on on a low-grip track as they clean up a year’s worth of dirt from the desert city.

However, there were no incidents in the largely uneventful race, although a few ended up on the track at Turn 14 at the end of the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Carlos Sainz in the second Ferrari was sixth, ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez rounded out the top ten.
