Bomb disposal unit at bus station after ‘security alert’
A city’s train and bus stations have been evacuated due to a bomb scare.
Chester station closed at around 18:00 GMT, police cordoned off around the station and no buses were running from the nearby bus interchange.
National Rail confirmed some train routes had been restored after stations were closed following the alert.
According to eyewitnesses, the city’s bus station was also cordoned off by police, and bomb disposal trucks were also seen near the scene.
Train operator Northern confirmed the line had been “blocked” due to the alert but that its services had restarted.
Merseyrail and Avanti West Coast lines from London Euston are affected, as are Transport for Wales services to Cardiff, Crewe, Manchester and Wolverhampton.
National Rail said a number of trains were delayed or canceled while police dealt with the incident.
Passengers were told to expect “significant disruption” until around 22:00 GMT, with flight cancellations and delays possible.
A Stagecoach spokesman said no bus services were currently serving the station or interchange as a result of the incident.
