Alistair Brownlee: Double Olympic champion retires aged 36
Double Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee has announced his retirement at the age of 36.
Brownlee won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and defended his title at the Rio Olympics four years later.
Brownlee was the 2009 and 2011 world champion and the only triathlete to win junior world title, U23 world title, European title and Olympic title.
“Triathlon changed my life profoundly. I dedicated nearly half of my life to becoming a professional athlete, fulfilling my childhood dream and achieving far more than I could have ever imagined,” Brownlee said in X reads.
“I’m looking forward to a slightly slower pace of life, but not too slow.
“There’s an exciting series of events, challenges and adventures waiting for me – things I’ve always wanted to try but never had the chance to pursue.”
