Microsoft Teams’ AI Language Interpreter Will Mimic Your Voice

Microsoft hopes to simplify communication across language barriers in its Teams meeting platform by introducing a unique artificial intelligence feature: real-time translation that not only conveys your words, but also replicates your voice. Ahead of Ignite, the company’s annual gathering for developers and IT professionals, Microsoft Announce The new Interpreter agent tool for Teams provides real-time speech-to-speech translation during meetings.

The feature is designed to allow participants to communicate with others in their preferred language, while the ability to simulate a user’s speaking voice is designed to create more personal and engaging interactions.

Users manually activate the feature during a meeting and select their preferred listening language. As the speaker speaks, a similar-sounding voice is heard speaking the chosen language.

This feature will be available in public preview in early 2025.

In addition, Microsoft said it is extending its language-centric AI capabilities to PowerPoint through the Copilot AI feature. Users can quickly translate entire presentations into any of 40 languages.

The company also announced other Copilot updates coming soonincluding the ability for users to request a quick summary of any content shared on screen during a PowerPoint presentation or from a link shared in chat, without having to open the content. Microsoft has also enhanced summary functionality, including a way for users to add speaker notes to slides.

“We’ve dramatically improved Copilot’s performance—twice the average response speed and nearly tripled response satisfaction—and introduced hundreds of new features,” the company said in a statement. blog post. “We’re adding new value to Copilot to solve the biggest pain points at work and help every employee expand their impact—from automating repetitive tasks to managing calendars.”

This year’s Microsoft Ignite in Chicago runs through Friday.
