Dumbarton: Scottish League 1 club enter administration and set for points deduction

Founded in 1872, Dumbarton Football Club is one of Scotland’s oldest football clubs and won the top flight championship at the end of the 19th century.

They have regularly competed in the country’s lower leagues in recent generations and were promoted via the play-offs last season.

Sons are in eighth place, one point above Annan Athletic, after Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Queen of the South. Stephen Farrell’s side visit Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

Quantuma managing director Ian Wright said in a statement: “Having not received the significant amount of money owed to the club from the sale of the development land in 2021, the club’s directors have no choice but to appoint administrators.”

“As administrators we will investigate the circumstances surrounding this deal and other issues affecting the club but are unable to comment further at this time.

“Our immediate priority is to ensure the club can complete its fixture list and we will be meeting with key stakeholders to ensure this is achieved.

“We know this will be a shock to fans, staff and the local community.

“The club employs 18 players, six football staff and three club staff and their roles are fixed during the early stages of our assessment of the options available to the club. We will invite any interested parties to come forward. “
