Billie Jean King Cup: Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter working together to lead Great Britain’s pursuit of glory
While in Malaga, the atmosphere in the British camp was far from tense.
They were unable to leave their hotel on Wednesday due to heavy rain and flash floods in the Andalusian city, but they kept spirits high with spikeball games and yoga classes.
The band also celebrated Raducanu’s 22nd birthday together. Balloons and banners hang outside her bedroom door in the morning and a candlelit chocolate cake is displayed in the evening.
The camaraderie is also enhanced by what Raducanu calls “a few inside jokes” at camp.
“I don’t think there’s any pressure. We’re just enjoying ourselves,” Bolt said.
“I know they have my back, so no matter what happens, I’m going to go out and do my best. I know they have my back.”
While Raducanu and Bolt have been leading the way from the front, Keosaong emphasized that her team is more than just a two-man act.
Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls all scored as GB progressed to the 2022 semi-finals, Although they have not yet been called up in Malaga, they have already played a key role.
Watson was described as the “life and soul” of the group, while Nichols was also behind many of the “jokes”.
“Sometimes, like I leave my kids at home, what are they doing today? Like picking up extra kids,” Kisavon said.
