LPGA Annika: Nelly Korda puts in late birdie surge to win title in Florida
American Nelly Korda defeated England’s Charley Hull on the back nine to win her third LPGA Annika title.
The world number one started the final day a stroke behind Hull City, who took the lead in Thursday’s opening round of the event, named in honor of Swedish 10-time major champion Annika. Annika Sorenstam.
But Korda made five consecutive birdies starting at the 11th hole and was two shots ahead with three holes remaining at Pelican Golf Club in Florida.
The 26-year-old stayed in par over the final three holes and finished with a 67 for a 14-under total.
Hull, who has been competing for back-to-back championships, missed a shot on the 17th hole that put her out of contention. She ended up with a score of 71, tied for second with China’s Zhang Weiwei and South Korea’s Lim Jin-hee, 11 under par. . .
