Corby residents react to investigation
People have expressed their grief and confusion after a woman’s body was found in the boot of a car more than 100 miles from her home in suspected murder.
Police believe Pankaj Lamba murdered his wife Harshita Brela in Northamptonshire earlier this month.
The 24-year-old man’s body was found in Ilford, east London, and the suspect is believed to have fled the country.
“I don’t understand how people could do something like this,” said Aleksanders Nadejs, who lives on the same road as the Bryants.
“I feel sad – I don’t understand.”
Prashant Odedara, who works at a nearby convenience store, said Ms Brera and Mr Lamba “went to the store once or twice a week” and “didn’t talk about themselves much” .
“Unlike the other customers, they were very friendly. We didn’t know much about them … they were just quiet,” he said.
“They were just like ordinary workers. We don’t know much about what was going on in their private lives.”
officials said Ms Brera was found in the early hours of Thursday morning in the car on Brisbane Road, Ilford, more than 100 miles from her home at Corby Lincoln Estate.
They believe Mr Lamba took her there.
Northamptonshire Police were contacted on Wednesday with concerns about her welfare.
Police said a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct was made due to previous contact with Ms Brera.
this northamptonshire telegraph It was first reported that she was the subject of a domestic violence protective order, which was said to have been put in place in early September and lasted 28 days.
Police have since confirmed that the order had been given before Ms Brera’s death.
Northamptonshire Police said a forensic autopsy carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary on Friday confirmed Ms Brera had been murdered.
An inquest into Ms Brera’s death will begin on Wednesday.
