UK snow and ice warnings as weather forecast to turn colder

Showers are expected to hit northern Scotland on Sunday afternoon as cold arctic air moves south across the UK over the weekend.

The Met Office has warned that around 5 to 10 centimeters of snow could fall in the northern Highlands of Scotland by Monday morning, while lower areas could get 1 to 3 centimeters.

This will also bring the risk of ice as overnight temperatures drop into Monday.

Arctic air also tends to be cleaner, so there’s a good chance of clear skies on Sunday night See the Léniaud meteor shower.

On Monday, a weather system will move in from the Atlantic Ocean, and this is where there may be some uncertainty in the forecast.

While rain is expected across much of England and Wales, there will be some snow on the region’s northern borders. Higher areas in Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland are most likely to see snow.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for northern England and southern Scotland on Monday and Tuesday.

15-20cm of snow is possible on the Pennine highlands and some damage is possible.

Towns at lower elevations are also at risk of damaging snowfall, with 2-10cm possible in some places, but this will depend on the precise trajectory of the rain as it moves across the UK – the amount of precipitation and the elevation of the land.

Since we are still in mid-November, the ground is still relatively warm, so low-level snow will be more difficult to settle.

Snow showers will continue across northern Scotland on Monday and Tuesday.
