Taylor vs Serrano rematch legitimises Tyson vs Paul carnival in Texas

Taylor, 38, is an Olympic gold medalist and undisputed two-weight champion. Puerto Serrano won an astonishing number of world titles in seven weight classes.

They each earned over £1 million for their first match – the first women’s match at New York’s Madison Square Garden – and will rightfully earn seven figures again.

“It’s every boxer’s dream to be paid well, I love my sport, I love what I do,” Taylor said, playing down reports the prize money could be as high as $6.1m (£4.8m).

Serrano, 36, also wouldn’t reveal her purse, but she believes other female boxers could capitalize on the size and success of her rivalry with Taylor.

“Women’s boxing is getting better and better and it’s only going to go up from here,” Serrano said. “I just hope their paychecks get better, like mine and Katie’s.”

Despite their optimism, only a handful of female boxers’ fights bring in life-changing money, and their earnings are not reflected on a global scale.

Energy-rich Saudi Arabia is slowly strengthening its stronghold in boxing and pay-per-view fighters – some of whom have less profile than Taylor or Serrano – are considerable.

However, women’s boxing has been generally ignored by the kingdom, despite the first world championship being held in the kingdom in October.
