how retailers and eCommerce firms can boost sales and loyalty – Africa.com
Latest research from global communications platform Infobip (www.Infobip.com) highlights how different generations want to communicate with businesses and brands ahead of Black Friday. When at least 86% of all generations expect targeted and relevant communications, according to Infobip research, retailers need to offer a personalized approach to each generation of shoppers.
Black Friday is the start of the Christmas shopping season. Millions of consumers search for deals online, providing retailers with growing opportunities to increase sales and strengthen their brand. According to management consulting firm Bain & Company, even a 5% increase in customer retention can increase profits by more than 25%.
However, developing an appropriate omnichannel strategy to communicate with four generations of consumers can be challenging. Done poorly, a brand can lose sales and even loyal customers. Information Bip’s Messaging Trends Report by Generation Each generation’s communication preferences revealed:
- baby boomers: Less accepting of duplicate content, with 40% wanting more diverse communication compared to 8% of Gen Z, but more likely to prefer chat apps than Gen X (68% vs. 57%)
- Generation X: 73% of Gen X prefer to receive product and service updates, compared to 55% of Gen Z
- Millennials: Younger generations are more open to new communication channels, with 60% of Millennials happy to shop via chatbots
- Generation Z: 83% of people want brands to treat them as individuals and 65% want to have a two-way conversation with the brands they buy from
Ivan Ostojić, chief commercial officer at Infobip, said: “Our research shows that most shoppers, regardless of age, want brands to interact with them like they would a friend through conversational channels and say this increases their loyalty. However, brands must get the communication right with their customers, To boost loyalty and increase sales. That’s why Infobip has analyzed the preferences of each generation and released a new report and a playbook to help retailers and e-commerce companies make the most of the shopping season.”
