Dangote Refinery Eyes Fuel Supply Deals with Eight African Nations – Africa.com | Global News Avenue

Dangote Refinery is discussing fuel supply agreements with eight African countries: South Africa, Angola, Niger Republic, Chad, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic and Namibia. Previously, Ghana expressed interest in purchasing fuel from refineries, which it expected would save $400 million a month in expensive fuel imported from Europe. Discussions are described as being at an advanced stage and, if successful, would see the Lagos-based refinery expand its operations on the continent. In September, Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote said the refinery would meet sub-Saharan Africa’s demand for gasoline, diesel and other products, promising to provide high-quality fuel that meets global standards. However, challenges have been posed by a pricing dispute with Nigerian oil marketers, who believe gasoline prices at refineries are high. As refineries reach full capacity and negotiate competitive prices, local marketers may find incentive to shift to domestic sourcing.
