Great Britain lose to Sweden in Women’s EuroBasket qualifying
Great Britain’s women’s team lost 63-60 to unbeaten Sweden in the latest EuroBasket qualifiers in Malmö.
GB will be aiming to avenge a 64-62 defeat in Manchester and boost their chances of advancing as Group D champions.
They led by five at half-time, but the home side responded brilliantly and GB’s advantage was reduced to two points by the end of the third quarter.
Sweden fought back in the final quarter to narrowly win again, extending their record to four wins in four games.
Holly Winterburn was GB’s top scorer with 22 points, while Temi Fagbenie added 21 points.
A win would bring Great Britain level with Sweden at the top of the table, but they still sit in second place with two wins and two losses.
The group winners qualify for the Women’s EuroBasket 2025, which will be held in June in the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Italy.
The four best runners-up in the qualifiers from Groups A to H and the host countries will also advance to next year’s finals.
