  • Limited fiber plan options in some areas

Your experience with Consolidated Communications will depend on where you live and the type of service available at your address. How you get fiber service, whether from Consolidated Communications or its fellow fiber brand Fidium, varies by state. DSL services, while offering greater availability, are far from ideal.

While service varies by state, my advice to Consolidated Communications is the same as for other fiber and DSL providers: Prioritize fiber internet and treat DSL as a last resort. What to expect from your provider is detailed below.

Fidium Fiber’s speeds and prices are on par or better than most fiber providers, but I’m less impressed with the Consolidated Communications fiber plans. If you are using Fidium Fiber – california, illinois, maine, minnesota, New Hampshire, pennsylvania, Texas or Vermont — You’ll get lower prices and better speed options than United Communications Fiber.

Fidium Fiber offers four plans in most locations, including a low-cost 100Mbps plan and a high-speed 2Gbps plan. Introductory fees are competitive and prices only increase by $15 or $20 after the first year. Consolidated Communications, on the other hand, has only two plans, both with a $30 price increase after 12 months.

The cheapest Consolidated Communications fiber plan, Advanced, is more expensive than Fidium Fiber’s Gig plan, although it only offers a quarter of the maximum speeds. The Premium plan is listed at up to 1Gbps and costs $70 per month, but jumps to $100 after the first year, which is the same as Fidium Fiber’s 2Gbps plan.

How many people in your family use the Internet?

DSL provides much more value than

Fidium fiber is more cost-effective than Consolidation Communications fiber, but both services are significant upgrades from DSL. Provider’s DSL plans fall short of 10, 20, 25 and 50Mbps speeds What is considered broadband (100Mbps downlink, 20Mbps uplink). Although it is slower, the starting price is relatively high. Every DSL plan has a Cost per Mbps $1+.

Comprehensive Communications Fees and Terms of Service

No matter what connection type or fiber service is available at your address, Consolidation Communications’ fees and terms of service are customer-friendly. Like any other ISP, taxes and fees will be added to your bill, but there’s nothing else customers need to worry about.

No contracts, data caps or device fees (most)

Consolidation Communications plans (DSL and fiber (including Fidium Fiber)) include unlimited data and no contract required.

In addition to Fidium Fiber’s two cheapest plans, equipment is also included for free. Renting equipment on the 100 or 300Mbps plans will add $10 to your monthly bill, while the 1 and 2Gbps plans include equipment rental.

The free equipment rentals offered on all plans are ideal, but it’s worth noting that the $10 fee is lower than many ISPs. Cox, Xfinity, CenturyLink, Brightspeed, etc. have higher monthly fees. Additionally, Fidium Fiber customers can eliminate fees entirely by using their own compatible equipment.

Comprehensive communications availability

Consolidated Communications DSL (pink) and fiber (purple) availability is available throughout the country, but coverage is most concentrated in the northeastern states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Federal Communications Commission

Consolidated Communications provides services in 20 states across the country, but the greatest concentration of availability is in the Northeast. Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont have Fidium Fiber’s best DSL Internet and fiber optic service coverage. Coverage extends to New Yorkespecially in the southeast Albany and along the northwest coast of Chautauqua Lake. pennsylvania border, but fiber optic service in New York is provided by Consolidated Communications, not Fidium Fiber.

Illinois, Minnesota and Texas also have considerable space available. Other aspects of suitability, including coloradoCalifornia, Georgia and Iowalimited to a few selected markets. Integrated communications are still available in some areas washington statebut the ISP recently sold much of its copper and fiber network to Lightcurve.

Compare integrated communications

As a DSL provider, Consolidated Communications is one of the few that offers a variety of plans to choose from. Many DSL providers, including AT&T, CenturyLink and Frontier, charge a flat rate for any available speed. However, the plan options are the only thing that really stands out, as Consolidated Communications DSL is priced well considering the speeds you get.

Fiber optic service is a better value. But again, the level of value will depend on what’s available in your area: Consolidated Communications or Fidium Fiber. Considering the speed for the price, United Communications Fiber Internet is cheaper than what you’ll get from other major fiber ISPs. Fidium Fiber, on the other hand, is comparable to many fiber optic ISPs and may offer faster speeds and lower prices than some ISPs.

However, you are unlikely to choose Consolidated Communications DSL or fiber optic service over other DSL or fiber optic providers.

With DSL, your only internet alternatives may be fixed wireless or satellite internet. Fixed wireless, from ISP e.g. T-Mobile Home Internetwhich offers faster speeds at a lower monthly fee. satellite internet May offer faster speeds, but at a higher price, higher latency, and limited data limits unless you choose Starlink.

Areas that offer fiber optic internet typically also have one or two cable internet providers. Typically, I would recommend cable fiber, but in some cases, a cable ISP (such as Xfinity or Spectrum) may be a better choice than Consolidated Communications.

For example, cable may be the cheaper option, as Consolidated Communications charges $60 per month ($90 after one year) with speeds up to 250Mbps, while Spectrum and Xfinity have lower introductory and standard rates with better speeds. Fast, up to 300Mbps.

Integrated Communications Customer Satisfaction

The main sources we at CNET use to evaluate ISP customer satisfaction are the U.S. Customer Satisfaction Index and JD Power, but Consolidated Communications is not specifically named in their reports. So, instead, I turned to better business bureau and Reddit to better understand what actual customers think of their services.

Consolidated Communications has an “F” rating and a customer review score of 1.09 out of 5. That’s not great, but it’s not completely unreasonable. Frontier, another DSL and fiber provider, had an even lower rating of 1.05, although it did receive an “A” rating. CenturyLink has a rating of 1.02 and is not rated by the BBB at all.

The majority of complaints (167 in the past 12 months) involved service outages or billing issues. Additionally, some complaints mentioned difficulty in contacting customer service to resolve their issues.

Reddit The post paints a similar picture regarding service outages. In addition to complaints of prolonged power outages in various areas, some users also reported problems when trying to install equipment themselves.

Ultimately, Consolidated Communications doesn’t seem to have the best record when it comes to customer satisfaction, but The telecom industry is known for low customer satisfaction. While other people’s experiences are certainly worth considering, I recommend evaluating Consolidated Communications or Fidium Fiber plans and pricing first and then forming your own opinion about the service if you choose to sign up.

Comprehensive Communications Review

As with any ISP offering DSL and fiber optic Internet, Consolidated Communications’ speeds, pricing, and overall value will depend on the type of service available at your address. If fiber is available, it can be a faster and more cost-effective option than cable, especially if you can get Fidium fiber. However, DSL service should only be considered as a last resort before opting for satellite internet.
