Jail for death crash driver on wrong side of road | Global News Avenue

A chef who drove on the wrong side of the road has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison for crashing and killing a taxi driver.

Christopher Boyle, 57, died on September 2 on the A4139 between Tenby and Penally, Pembrokeshire.

Mateusz Sikorski, 30, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The court previously heard Sikorski had visited the UK from Poland and stayed with friends.

As he drove towards Penali, he collided head-on with Mr Boyle, who was traveling in the opposite direction.

Sikorski initially told police at the scene that Mr Boyle had gone the wrong way, but later admitted he had gone the wrong way, which was also confirmed by CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station.

He claimed the taxi’s headlights blinded him.

Craig Harding, prosecuting, said: “Matteusz Sikorski drove in a manner that posed a significant risk to other road users and led to fatal consequences.

“Our condolences and sympathies are with Mr. Boyle’s family and friends who have suffered a terrible loss.”
